Hot Stuff: Get your Beer & Burger on at Toad’s
We already liked Toad’s Food & Drink for its good food, friendly service, $2 draft beer happy hour (5:30 PM - 7:00 PM), and mellow vibe. There’s something about Toad’s fresh tasting buttered bun that makes us smile–when we’re not wiping the Angus burger juices off our lips, that is. We also appreciate having the burger set up (lettuce, pickle, onion, tomato) on the side, for those "no onions tonight, self" times.
Toad’s is clean and light filled before the sun goes down. There is both rotating local art and TV -- usually sports or news-- to take in. If the place is not too full, the server may ask what you’d like to watch on the tube. That’s a sweet touch.

Toad’s keeps the healthier types happy with their chicken breast, turkey patty, garden, portabella and boca burgers (all burgers $6.95 and up). We can only speak to the chicken and turkey versions, which have been juicy and tasty on recent visits. There are also hot dogs ($4.95 and up, with a side of fries or green salad), soup ($3.95), salads ($5.95 and up), griddles and sandwiches ($5.95 to $8.95.... Apple Gorgonzola sandwich, anyone?) and three or so Mitchell’s ice cream flavors to choose for dessert.
Toad’s $3 Happy Hour Appetizers (weekdays 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM) come on smallish plates, but 2-3 orders will feed 2 hungry adults, easily. Talk about cheap eats! The menu varies, but we’ve kept it real with their chili fries, and nachos (salsa may be bland to some but this is otherwise good). Other faves range from potato skins (a tasty combo of bacon, cheddar, jack and green onions) to onion rings (fresh, not frozen!). Our only quibble is we sometimes wish there was meat in the otherwise decent chili, but guess the vegetarians win this round.
Now Toad’s has really done it. Just in time for fall sports, Toad’s has all kinds of new food and drink options. We’re ready to get served, and we don’t mean the movie. Here’s the latest from Toad’s:
Monday night football with flat screen TVs and $2 select draft beer (Stella Artois, Hefeweisen, Big Daddy IPA, Pale Ale, and Marzen). We think that’s like heaven or something great for you sports and beer afficionados.
Tuesday open mic nights Word up! Although the owner described the open mic idea to us and it sounded interesting, we have yet to see it live. This takes place every other Tuesday–ask in person, or call to confirm dates.
Wednesday kids' nights with
cartoons, drawing, a kids' menu (but of course, darling!) and one beer or soda for parent or accompanying adult. This may mean Toad’s replaces Barney’s Burgers as our go-to kiddie dining spot the next time we take out the under eight set.
Saturday night special with $1 select draft beer ALL NIGHT. That’s somethin’ special! This is so frickin’ cheap, we are keeping our Saturday night calendar as open as possible, just to try it out. At those prices, we can afford to say, "This round’s on me" more than once.
Football Sunday $2 select draft beer and free snacks. We’re dying to know if the snacks are of the chips, whips, nuts, or other variety during games.
