Where's Gavin?
He's in New York!
Tuesday he took off to the Big Apple to attend a three day event for the Clinton Global Initiative conference. That's Clinton as in Bill Clinton, not George Clinton. The Clinton Global Initiative is some big huge three day conference in which various political and governmental big wigs gather to discuss the environment and helping the poor people and Africa and all that stuff that George Clooney and Angelina Jolie talk about.
Attending along with Gavin will be Laura Bush, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Newsom, who the CGI people say "has made bold ideas the driving force of his administration" will take part in a discussion with other Mayors about how communities can preserve energy.
Newsom actually has taken part in something like this before as he hung out with Bill, LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and London Mayor Ken Livingtstone and helped introduce the Clinton Climate Initiative which will "create a purchasing consortium to enable partner cities to reduce energy use and green house gas emissions." There's a whole bunch more of what this thing does, but we hate science just as much as we hate math.
In New York, Gavin will also take a tour of Central Park to get an idea of how it works as apparently it's in better shape than Golden Gate Park. We have fungus in our shower that's in better shape than parts of Golden Gate Park.
Truth be told, this is actually pretty impressive. Not every Mayor is invited to these kinds of shindigs and we can say with pride that our Mayor McDreamy was. As for Gavin, we can see him totally loving all the wonkiness of it. Not to mention the fact that saying your helping to save the environment totally works with lingerie models.

your helping?
They are supposed to be webcasting this event, but the link on the CGI website actually says to check back on opening day (which is today). Hmmm.
We took a vote down here at SFPP HQ and we think Mayor Gavin "Nimby" Newsom ought to spend some time in SF dealing with the spiraling homicide problem and fixing muni. In 2005 the SF homicide rate was the highest in a decade, and it is even higher in 2006.
Meanwhile, Mayor Newsom spends about half his time out of town, raising money and campaigning for his next job, while SF is going to hell in a handbasket.
Party on!
The San Francisco Party Party
--like the green party, but without the funny smell
----like the democratic party, without all that money!
Hey, didn't you read the puff text? Nimby already fixed Muni with his Bold New Ideas. Unfortunately I see no mention of Bold New Implementation.
