What's the Score, Boys? What Did Bugs Bunny Do? What's With the Carrot League Baseball Today?
Giants 5 Rockies 0- Baseball is a long season and there are a lot of games during the season and it is always problematic to overemphasize the importance of just one game, but all things considering, yesterday was the most recent Most Important Game of the Year for the Giants. They were 2 1/2 back against the Padres, four in back of the Dodgers and another loss just might have set them back too much. So in steps Matt Cain, your new Giants ace, to throw an eight-inning shut out of the Rockies.
How awesome is Matt Cain right now? He hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 30 2/3 innings, and a run of any sort in 17 1/3 innings. In his last six starts, he is 5-0 in with an ERA of 0.21. He is also still 21 years old.
Anyways, the Giants are still just 2 1/2 back of the Padres for the Wild Card and three behind LA. LA and San Diego are playing each other this weekend and raises the interesting question of who should Giant's fans root for? Would it be better to watch them beat the snot out of each other, or one team to beat up on the other and push them back in the standings? We're with Sabaen on this one and as much as we hate to say it, go LA!
The Giants, meanwhile, set off for a ten game road trip, their last of the season. First up, the first place Cards (never a great place to play), three in Colorado (never a good place to play) and Milwaukee for four (always a meh place to play, but better than Colorado and St. Louis).
We shall see.
