SFist Watches: TV This Week

Those season premieres are trickling in, with the big gusher arriving next week. We'll try to come to you daily next week with coverage and (hopefully) some actual reviews of pilots, but for this week we offer a slightly briefer rundown.
"Monday Night Football" premieres on ESPN tonight, but if you're someone who watches football, you already know this, so that's all that needs to be said about that. This being the fifth anniversary of 9/11 the airwaves will also be filled with news shows, docs, and TV movies about that awful day, as well as the President's address at 6 p.m. PT. (If you're wondering why "Prison Break" doesn't start until 8:18 p.m. tonight, that's why.)
The season finale of "Big Brother: All-Stars" is at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, but being that one of the remaining houseguests is Mike "Boogie," one of the vilest reality TV contestants ever, and the other houseguest is Erika, someone who has actually been making out with (and probably more) the guy all season (and apparently has no idea he's been calling her disgusting and a "ho" behind her back), means this finale is going to be vomit-inducing at best. But at least we'll get to see Janelle and Dr. Will one more time. (Wonder if Erin Brodie will be watching...) Also at 8 p.m. Tuesday is the season premiere of "Dancing With the Stars." We know a lot of you out there love this show, so good on you. But the prospect of watching the likes of Jerry Springer, Tucker Carlson, and Joey Lawrence out there ballroom dancing kind of makes us queasy.

On Wednesday "Rock Star: Supernova" will pick their lead singer. Last week saw the ousting of former local girl Storm Large, so we couldn't care less about who they ultimately end up picking. We're ultimately glad that Storm didn't win the thing--she's much too good for that crappy band--but no prospect of seeing her perform (unless they bring back some of the former contestants for encores) means the show will be pretty boring. Over on ABC, after another episode of "Dancing with the Stars," they'll be running previews of their new season line-up from 9 to 10 p.m.
The controversial 13th season of "Survivor" premieres at 8 p.m. Thursday on CBS. As you've probably heard by now, this season will begin with the castaways being segregated divided into ethnic "tribes," four in all: black, white, Hispanic, and Asian. We won't say much about THAT, except that it's too bad it's taken them this long to realize the show is too damn white. But look! There are actually too locals in the cast! Yul, a "management consultant" from San Mateo, and Cecilia, a "technology risk consultant" from Oakland. (Is "consultant" a euphemism for "between jobs"?) Unless they quickly reveal themselves to be jerks, we'll be rooting for these two.
And finally, on Friday comes the premiere of "Men in Trees" at 8 p.m. on ABC, (although you can also catch a "preview" airing of the premiere Tuesday at 10 p.m.). This whole show screams pitch meeting to us, with the ultimate pitch being, "It's 'Sex in the City' meets "Northern Exposure'!" Anne Heche stars as an author of relationship advice books who finds out her fiancee is cheating on her. Realizing she knows less about men and relationships than she thought she did, she fleas to Elmo, Alaska and vows to stay there until she gets it all figured out. Oh, we can already picture all the wacky and eccentric locals! But what the hell. Until "Battlestar Gallactica" starts up in October we've got nothing else to TiVo on Friday nights. We'll give it a shot.

No mention of the train wreck that is Celebrity Duets?
There wasn't much to say about that trainwreck when it premiered a few weeks back, and even less to say now....
