SFist Cares ... Educational Funding Sucks

Ok, so perhaps SFist's own Donor's Choose challenge isn't going to break any records (and we're not the best promoter's are we?).

But that doesn't mean there's a flaw in the system... well not a flaw in the Donor's Choose system anyway, don't even get us started on flaws in the public school system. So from now until September 30, Donor's Choose is trying to raise $250,000 for California school proposals and half of that is being donated by big money corporate sponsors. The rest would come from nice, education supporting, happy people like yourselves.

We look a look at some of the chosen proposals (the proposals are absolutely the best things about Donor's Choose) and have found that there is something for everyone:

Say CHEESE!!! - that's for all you photobloggers to support (there are lots of proposals asking for cameras).

For the gamers in the audience, buy a Scrabble set.

How about you interior designers/Apartment Therapy SF folks: A Little Personal Space.

Who are our auto show fanatics?

God, I hated PE as a kid but I'll bet our weight loss blogger readers know how important it is to start out young.

I know many, many of our readers are music fans.

And foodbloggers? I haven't forgot about you. Help kids learn to read through food - The Recipe Book of ABC's. I can't imagine what he'll do for the letter X...

September used to be awesomest month for Little SFist Cares with our pigtails and new bookbag and fun things to learn but we were lucky that we lived in a place with a well-funded educational system. Not so much here. It would be a real shame for kids to miss out on some of these opportunities.

Yes, we're totally piling the guilt high on this one. We miss school!

Please don't forget that high school kids often get the short end of the funding stick! Everyone seems to love helping and donating things for elementary kids, but as a high school teacher, I find it much more difficult to find resources for my students. They need help, too!
