As if the Cal Greeks didn't have enough to worry about with the undercover cops swarming in -- the ladies of Alpha Omicron Pi got an unpleasant surprise as they answered their door yesterday morning at 2:30 a.m. to a young man, who then died from a gunshot wound. The Berkeley police had received a tip that there might have been a shooting earlier that night at the site of the former Tower Records on Durant, and the sorority released a statement that contrary to previous reports, the sorority was not having a party that night.

Frellen's Casual and Outdoor Furniture store in San Rafael's sweeping up glass, as their Labor Day No Sales Tax sale on Sunday was interrupted by a 72-year-old man who mistook his accelerator for his brake and crashed into their plate glass window. The impact sent a couch and several chairs flying into the parking lot, and barely missed a 1-year-old (who slept through the whole thing). The wife of the driver offered to pay for the furniture the 1-year-old's family was purchasing, and the San Rafael police declined to cite the driver.

And someone stole an 8-year-old leukemia patient's puppy from the UCSF parking lot. The Chihuahua-Doberman mix (!!!), named Chemo, was last seen in a carrier in the front seat of the family's car. The family doesn't have the heart to tell the patient that the dog's been stolen. UCSF police are starting a reward fund for Chemo's return, which is currently at $200.
