When The Lights Go Down In The City

"I got a meetin' in the ladies room. I'll be back real soon." -- Klymaxx

KlymaxxWho's excited for the Art & Soul Festival in Oakland this weekend? What? Well you should be! Three days of music for only $5 a day, and a crazy eclectic lineup of world, jazz, dance, r&b and indie rock that's bound to please everyone. Sure, they've made it a little harder to get to Oakland this weekend by closing the Bay Bridge (which makes no sense to us) but you can still hop on the BART.

Honeycut and Silversun Pickups play on Saturday before lunch (we hope they are conscious in time for their set) and Calexico plays on Sunday. Klymaxx will be playing our jam on Sunday at 4:55pm sharp, with original guitarist Cheryl Cooley. Monday's got Angie Stone, a ton of gospel music and a band called Fattburger. This is seriously good. Visit the website for the full schedule. And check out the hottness that is Klymaxx.

Tonight The Watson Twins play with Matt Costa at Slim's. You'll remember the Watsons' appearance on the Jenny Lewis solo record; their own sound is a similar nostalgic mix of country and soul. The local boys in Luxxury play a UK Tour Kickoff at Cafe Du Nord with The Otherside. At Rickshaw Stop, check out Honeycut, who we like to think of as the Bay area's own answer to Gnarls Barkley. We've been listening to the advance of their record The Day I Turned To Glass which makes us feel like we're in the past and the future at the same time. Klymaxx would approve.

More concert picks and a Honeycut mp3 to download, after the jump.

On Friday, The Spin Off Grand Finals are at Great American Music Hall. The event will feature Stones Throw Records’ roster of MCs and DJs including Madlib, J.Rocc, Peanut Butter Wolf and others, as well as a live art installation by legendary artist Shepard Fairey. Popscene presents another great lineup with Sparta, Silversun Pickups and Communique. Check out SFist interviewee Half-Handed Cloud at Bottom of the Hill.

Don't forget the Art & Soul Festival starts on Saturday in Oakland. Sunday night catch Trainwreck Riders at Cafe Du Nord, playing songs off their forthcoming record Lonely Road Revival, out soon on Alive Records.

On Monday BAGeL Radio presents Cloud Cult, Hijack the Disco, and DJ Ted himself at Bottom of the Hill. The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players do their thing with Gabby La La at Café Du Nord. Tuesday brings Deerhoof to Great American with Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog.

Wednesday night brings an awesome lineup to Bottom of the Hill with one of our favorite bands Centro-matic and hometown troubador David Dondero. Local band The Decoration open the show. The kooky sisters in CocoRosie do their creepy/cute crooning at Great American.
