Barry Zito outpitched Curt Schilling this afternoon to lead the Athletics to a 7-2 beat down of the Dead Sox. That's what they in the business call a "sweep." The A's have won 15 of 19 games and were 21-6 in August and the Chron notes that the A's are an amazing 124-45 in August since 2001. Crikey.
Don't get too excited A's fans-- if things hold they way they are, your first round playoff opponent is the Detroit Tigers.
As for the Giants, they dropped another game to the Braves, making it two losses in a row. Today's loss was by a score of 5-3, done in by a three run sixth inning which also happens to be the exact moment we turned on the game. You know, we've always suspected that games in Atlanta were death to the Giants and we were right-- they haven't won a series there since May 1993. Which also happens to be the year we learned to really despise the Braves.
The Giants are now six in back of LA for the West, but are still three back in the wild-card chase. Don't get too excited Giants fans-- the NL is so bad the SFist softball team is six out.
