We Read The Weeklies

ebx823.jpgLast week's winner, the East Bay Express. More letters about Cody's? Okay, ew: there's cockroaches on AC Transits, and they had a lice infestation on BART. We are totally standing up on BART for the indefinite future. Also -- Ann Coulter is accused of plagiarizing from Jane Ganahl. Is Ann Coulter also feeling bad about being single? Spider bites. A new group encouraging more people to refuse to testify before grand juries. Will SFist Jackson throw them all a benefit party? Cover article: the expensive skew of wine journalism (we like the title "Wineau."). New website to use statistics to evaluate assage on the Oakland A's, called Moneybutt. Ha! The first Wineau column, for cheap wine. Shouldn't this column have been placed closer to the cover article? And Bay Area tribute bands.

Next up.... oh, let's say the SF Weekly: Long letter by the profiled anti-Palestinian guy who sneaks into pro-Palestine organizational events. Shouldn't he be using his time to sneak into some pro-Palestine events? Matt Smith on Mexico. Hey, our party made Sucka Free City -- though we can't help but wonder, are we being mocked? No! Cover article: the lowest draft pick in the Niners. We still kind of want to see A Chorus Line, and this Annie Sprinkle show sounds entertaining. Meredith takes her friend Peter out to dinner. Why doesn't she ever take SFist Ced? Popscene's 10th anniversary. And Dan Savage is not 34 years old. SFist Eve's horoscope: learn three things you're not supposed to know!

After the jump: The Metro, the Guardian, and the Weekly of the Week -- yay!

The Metro: We got a hard copy this week -- hooray! It's just not the same reading the Metro online. Gary Singh loves Annalee Newitz. Annalee Newitz missed Snakes on a Plane. Wow, there's been a lot of hate crimes in the South Bay this summer. The Metro argues that San Jose is becoming cool, because a vegan restaurant has opened downtown. There's a Scientology exhibit at the San Jose Convention Center. San Jose is becoming cool! The San Jose Giants minor league team is tops in its division. The son outshines the father. Cover article: SJ arts scene this fall. North Vietnamese food in San Jose. Graphic novels as erotica. Tron is cool. Asian fashion show. And the Straight Dope: does gasoline expire?

And the Guardian: Steven Jones goes to Burning Man this week. When he returns, he'll begin his cycle of "preparing for Burning Man" news articles anew. Yay, an editorial about public power!! How rare! Why's Josh Wolf in federal court, anyways? (bonus quote: Wolf tells the Guardian he's sorry about that police officer getting his skull cracked because "I do not condone violence against any living creature.") A Sister of Perpetual Indulgence wants Halloween in the Castro moved. Cover: Katrina = Global Warming. Someone tries to pick Marke B up in the Bruno's men's room. Hey, Caffe Trieste is turning 50 -- that's awesome. And Paul Reidinger goes to the Woodhouse Crab Shack, and did not have a good time in Vegas.

Weekly of the Week: The East Bay Express, for a second week in a row! Spiders, lice on BART, grand jury dodgers, Ann Coulter plagiarizing from Jane Ganahl, and Moneybutt. It does not get better than that! (but thank you for the shoutout, SF Weekly! Your correspondent's older brother would totally buy you guys beer.)
