SFist Watches: The End of Summer

The fall TV season officially begins tonight with the season premiere of Fox's "Prison Break," at 8 p.m. Once again, Fox gets the jump on the rest of the networks, as most season premieres will be happening in September. And we, for one, are kind of dreading it all. Don't get us wrong, we love us some TV, but it can sometimes be a lot of work keeping up with all those new shows and returning faves. Plus, we don't like knowing the end of summer is so near.

Anyway, as you may recall, at the end of the first season of "Prison Break" the prisoners did, indeed, break. We just wish they had called this season "Prison Broke" or "Prison Breaked," or...well, you get the picture. "PB" is a huge guilty pleasure with us; the show is completely unbelievable and preposterous, but the eye candy is plentiful, and at times the sheer ridiculousness of it all just makes us laugh. Good times.

"Prison Break" is followed by the premiere of "Vanished" which is not to be confused with NBC's "Kidnapped." (Better get used to these new shows that sound suspiciously alike in plot; it's a recurring trend this season.) The show centers on the mysterious disappearance of the mysterious wife of a mysterious senator, and everyone's a suspect. Or ARE THEY? We've watched a few clips from the show, and weren't impressed. We've also read the reviews, and it seems others aren't too impressed either, so we're going to take a pass on this one. There's a lot of new TV ahead, and we're just going to have to start making some cuts early.

Also premiering tonight are parts one and two of Spike Lee's Katrina documentary, When the Levees Broke, at 9 p.m. on HBO. Parts two and three air tomorrow at the same time, and all four hours will be repeated on August 29th, the first anniversary of Katrina. We imagine Lee's film will probably be one of the better Katrina specials you can expect to see in the coming weeks, so set those TiVos.

I saw the pilot for "Kidnapped" and "Studio 60" on DVD recently. Both were not bad, but I have a limit as to how many of these big shows I can follow, and the sad fact is most of 'em will not be as good as the ones I have to watch - 24, Lost and of course, Peabody Award winning Battlestar Galactica.

Still it beats more stupid reality shows. I mean wth was up with "Who wants to be a Superhero" anyway?
