Don't Panic!

You know that part in the zombie movie where they turn on the TV, and it's just static, and that's how they know that the situations really, really bad? Well, that's not going to be happening tomorrow. Oh, crap, did we just jinx ourselves?

However, all the -ist sites are going to be missing from the internet for much of Sunday, as Gothamist's technical team is going to be physically moving the network's boxes from one place to another in our data center.

From our Technical Director:

For this, our servers will be taken offline, and physically moved into the racks. Their IPs will need to change, and because of that we'll need to update the DNS. So, this Sunday, at 4 a.m. EST, all sites will be down. It should be a 3 hour window, bringing us to 7 a.m. EST, where then we will have to establish new DNS addresses to the boxes and verify that all services are working correctly. Hopefully everything will be functional by noon EST.

So, please, go outside, go see a movie, read a book, do something fun on Sunday! We'll see you back here on Sunday afternoon. And, as always, thanks for your continued patience with us as we go through these growing pains. We love you all!
