We Read The Weeklies

44-Descent.jpgLast week's winner, the Bay Guardian. The theme of the Local News section is "Editor's note: Alix Rosenthal [District 8 candidate] is the domestic partner of Guardian city editor Steven T. Jones. Jones did not participate in the assigning, writing, or editing of this story," as the Guardian weighs in on both the Castro Halloween fight and an update on the Pendulum. Also, Chris Daly can't get any documents under the sunshine laws either. Why didn't they interview Alix Rosenthal on that issue too? Steven Jones could have just taken the week off! A loaded term (starts with a p, is a synonym for cat) is used to describe the local music scene in an article about loud all-female band 16 Bitch Pile-Up. Cover article: horror movie The Descent. And SFist Eve's horoscope: don't end up like those Girls Gone Wild.

Next up, the East Bay Express: Ha ha, they called Ignacio de la Fuente "Nacho" in Bottom Feeder! Is Google cutting off ad revenue for blogs with disturbing content? Cover article: A very thoughtful piece by Annali Rufus about the various reasons why Cody's on Telegraph failed (not just the Internet, but also the big gamble on the SF store). Two thumbs up (we loved the Telegraph Cody's). Also, Andy Ross (Cody's owner) cries a lot. I Like Eating pledges to eat outdoors for the rest of the summer. Rob Harvilla comes back to write about Grandaddy -- again. Go back to the East Coast, Village Voice boy! And the hip hop slang word of the day? Sav, which is derived from savage. Synonyms include hogg, rogue, and boss baller.

After the jump, the SF Weekly and the Metro, along with the Weekly of the Week.

The SF Weekly: Someone who isn't Matt Smith is complaining about the Board of Supes' silly resolutions. Yo, that ain't right -- people getting fined for flyers that they don't know other people are putting up with their names on them. Don't mess with DPW! Cover article: The so-so job Gavin Newsom's done with a community group in the Bayview. Tossing the insert about "Solfest." The non-Meredith food critic eats in the Embarcadero after hours. And Dan Savage's money to Bob Casey (the anti-choice Democrat running against Rick Santorum in PA) gets returned because Dan is too controversial.

And the Metro: Cover article: some crazy art/skateboarding/digital arts type deal called ZeroOne that's coming to San Jose next week. Gary Singh uses the opportunity to wax nostalgic about his pointless digital art piece at SJSU. Hey, the Fly snags a copy of the catering menu at San Jose City Hall. Mmm, we do love a ham/egg/cheese croissant sandwich. Open more swimming pools! And hey, Anchorman the movie isn't so bad.

Weekly of the Week: We're giving it to the EBX! That Cody's article was really good. Editor's note: Alix Rosenthal [District 8 candidate] is the domestic partner of Guardian city editor Steven T. Jones. Jones did not participate in the assigning, writing, or editing of this Weekly of the Week.

We had to pick up a copy of the SF Weekly just to make sure they weren't running the same cover story as the Express again.

Plus, sfbg.com's music blog hasn't been updated since Monday ... and they were doing so well after their server issues!
