See, we're not the only people with server problems -- All MUNI K, L, and M trains are stuck after an unspecified "electrical problem" in the tunnel between West Portal and the Castro right before 8:00 a.m. forced MUNI to stop those three train lines so they could send in workers into the tunnel to fix the situation. The dreaded above-ground bus service will be shuttling people to the Castro, at which point we expect all trains to be JAMTIGHTPACKED. MUNI spokeman Alan Siegel said that there were most likely" going to be delays throughout the system as a result. Nuh-uh!
Huh, when Ted Stevens said the Internet was a series of tubes, we didn't think he meant it so literally -- Caltrain announced that it successfully tested high-speed wireless Internet connectivity on its trains. They don't have a launch date for it yet, but are hoping to get it installed in all the trains along all 77 miles of the SF-SJ axis within a year.
And for those of you along Geary Street, please note that 38 and 38L-Geary bus service has been rerouted for the funeral procession of Officer Nick Tomasito Birco at St. Mary's, starting from 8 a.m. today. Birco was killed last week while attempting to stop a vanful of fleeing burglars.

I got to Castro at 8:11 am and they weren't allowing trains to move in either direction and of course the bus bridge wasn't up and running yet. You can imagine how full that first F Market train was. I gave up and started walking. I actually caught up to the red F Market car again at Church but it pulled ahead after that.
This made me an hour late to work because I missed the last baby bullet Caltrain.
Yet more Muni issues? We thought jam-packed buses with random arrival times were already the height of convenience... With BART and related MUNI connections being used for San Francisco airport connections - this might not make the best impression on visitors to the City.
Actually, derailment, not "electrical problems".

discussion about it on LiveJournal.
I don't know why this report and others only mention the K L and M trains, because my coworker rides the N and had to get off at Church and Duboce. Others who tried to get on a J were turned away. It was my understanding that nothing was running in the tunnels this morning, inconveniencing any rider who uses any of the MUNI underground trains.
Also strange: Although MUNI told The Chronicle that the trains won't be running in time for the evening commute, NextBus says they'll be arriving in 10 minutes! http://www.nextbus.com/
Even weirder was last night's total cancellation of the N line. I was coming home from an event downtown, stopped at Safeway, and then saw the train coming out from the tunnel...but it was an "N Arguello" not an "N Ocean Beach".
When we got to UCSF we all had to get off, and several trains on the outbound lanes were returning backwards to Arguello, and soon afterwards, buses were picking up people on the N.
Weird.
