Bay Area Blog Round-Up
Growing up we went to a stuffy high school where Latin, Ancient Greek and even a little Sanskrit was taught. In college we surprised ourselves by diving head-first into media theory, examining how the thought patterns of literate people are fundamentally different from people within a solely oral tradition. It's a fascinating subject (OK, yes, we're geeks), but this meant we read Andrew O'Hehir's article on Andrew Dalby's book positing that Homer was a girl, with such glee. It was fun to mentally debate his conclusions, and remember half-forgotten snippets of ancient prose. Edward Champion does us one better and puts his skepticisms down on paper and adds his own twist to it.
OK, so maybe we should get out more, exercise, huh? We're working on it. We've started a new exercise plan, and are planning on going to the chiropractor and accupuncturist to get the kinks worked out. Hopefully we won't end up in as icky a situation as The Good Mo, though.
In any event, our torpitude doesn't extend so far as not cheering all those who participated in the SF Marathon, no matter how you managed to do it. We've tried to get fit in the past, but a marathon has always seemed way beyond us, so we, too, admire those who can finish. And, of course, our complete condolences to the family of former Wired deputy editor William Goggins, who died during the race.
