shakedown.jpgYou know who doesn't want to Spare The Air anymore? BART. Disturbed by the uptick in crime as a result of the all-day free rides (on that last Friday of Sparing The Air, the BART police went on twice as many calls as usual), the BART police chief has proposed that they go back to just making BART free during commute hours on extra hot and smoggy days. Matier and Ross had some lurid crimes to report, including a girlfight at the Berkeley stop, and two San Francisco kids who took the BART out to Pleasanton to try breaking into cars in the parking lot.

An 19-year-old Oakland woman is under arrest after brutally killing her 6-week-old labrador retriever. As she was walking the puppy, she apparently became angry at it, kicked it hard enough to flip over several times, and then repeatedly smashed its head into the pavement, which killed it. She's been charged with felony animal cruelty; the Oakland shelter director pointed out that you shouldn't even have a puppy that age out on a leash anyways. Lock that lady up and throw away the key!

And in our medium high-profile criminal trial roundup: Maureen Faibish (pit bull killed her son) cried during closing arguments; the Scott Dyleski (killer goth) murder trial started; Greg Anderson (Barry Bonds' buddy) is probably going to get thrown in jail for a third time.
