Everyone welcome our newest food contributor, SFist Mary!
SFisters are forced to lighten up our menus as the warm weather continues. The burning questions on what to eat and drink looms large. Our answers:
Eat it: blender soups, savory or sweet. Just in time for tomato season, rev up the blender and make gazpacho. Combine in a blender 3 cups or more tomato juice (or you can do a 50-50 combo of veggie stock), 2-3 tablespoons fresh lemon or lime juice, 18 ounces chopped seeded tomatoes, 6 ounces diced English hothouse cucumber, 1 cup chopped red or green bell pepper, 1 medium chopped white onion, cilantro, and parsley. Mince 1 green onion and 2 garlic cloves garlic. Heat lovers, add: a seeded minced jalapeno chili or ample shakes of favorite hot sauce. After blending, add salt and pepper, to taste. Serve chilled. Garnish with a dollop of sour cream or non-fat plain yogurt, and sprigs of cilantro and parsley.
Sweet fruit soup: blend 4 cups of any combo fresh chopped peaches, berries, and melon with ½ cup orange juice. Add sugar or honey if needed. Chill at least half an hour before serving. Ample pours of Prosecco or Cointreau mixed in make this va-va-voom adult fun in a bowl.
Hot chicken and cold drink/treat suggestions after the jump.

Goood Frikin' Chicken: we like how clean GFC is, and the food is plentiful, cheap and goood. Try the whole herb marinated Open Flame Chicken for $16. It's an easy meal for two with ample leftovers (maybe even a second meal), and the flatbread and garlic butter accompaniments are addictive.
Drink it: chilled Lillet is our favorite French apertif. (We notice our fellow corner market shoppers agree, which made us feel in on a delightful secret.) While we prefer the white grape version for its subtle orange flavors, red grape Lillet is a fruity, vibrant alternative.
Want something more creamy, yet still cold? Mission restaurants serve delicious horchata, a drink made from rice and spiced with cinnamon. Chava's, Los Jarritos, and La Taqueria's all pass muster. Do NOT drink more than one serving or you will inevitably fall into serious food coma. Who wants to be roasting and overstuffed?
Chill out: brave the lines at Bombay Creamery or Mitchells for ice cream in flavors tame to exotic (rose petal, anyone?). Or grab an It's It ice cream sandwich, available at many SF liquor stores. Take the chillinÂ’ to the street or straight home. It's It is after all a fine SF tradition.

oh, I get it - I think I know which Mary you are. I was thinking it was a coincidence two local Lillet posts in one week.
Good luck with the new column and welcome onboard the food team. I am having a haitus right now, but hope to get back to it one day.
Oh I have to try the adult soup! It is just hot enough to chill out. Thanks!
I don't usually read about food, I like to eat it but your stories are hilarious. Thanks for sharing some new booze, have to get my wife some Lillet. :)
