Wednesdays, The New Wednesdays

Wednesday's not ready to make nice! Today: Do you wish you were in Hawaii instead of here? Well, bring your macadamia nuts and head out to Stern Grove by 2 p.m.and check out the SF Hawaiian dance troupe Halau'o Keikiali'i and the Hawaiian singing group Makaha Sons f/ Barry Kimokeo. Download clips if you can't make it, but want that Hawaiian sound in your office cubicle. (registration required).

program_2_2006.jpgThursday: The WestWind summer dance fest showcasing new choreographers is town for three weeks. Tonight's performances feature intriguing dances like Apryl Renee's Tropes of Seuss (we hope Thing 1 and Thing 2 are incorporated), the Spinning Yarns Dance Collective's piece on faith and companionship, and danceNAGANUMA about the veil between reality and the spirit world. 8 p.m. at the Project Artaud Theater, 450 Florida (between 17th and Mariposa), $20.

And Friday: When we got this, we thought author Ken Foster would be reading from his book "The Dogs Who Found Me At Kiehl's," and thought the book was about dogs with really soft fur (or possibly a sober book about animal testing) -- but no, we misread it -- author Ken Foster's book is called "The Dogs Who Found Me," is about rescuing animals, and the event is at the Kiehl's on Fillmore and Washington so they can give all the money to the Pets Unlimited across the street. Buy a book and get a Kiehl's gift bag! 4-7 p.m.
