Cafe Cuvee was an absolutely amazing restaurant that closed because the chef wanted to devote her time to her cooking school. It was packed most nights.

If anyone knows the name of the chef/owner or where this school is, I would really like to know, I have been searching high and low for her classes.

Thanks!

As to the question of what was there before Cafe Cuvee (awkward name didn't help the place), I think it was a salad/sandwhich place called Counter Culture that may have been take out only.

Anyone remember this?

El Castillito is the best, especially if you order a: "quesadilla el castillito, carnitas". #29 I believe. It is actually an all meat burrito which they keep on the griddle to crisp. It is the absolute best. 2nd best is the all meat burrito w/ carnitas.

Report back!

Haddock:

I have seen guys replenish at some world import store (pier one I believe), so why not at Safeway. The guy even asked not to pay the taxes, or to get a discount, or something like that, as he was a restaurant owner.

Not that the woodhouse guys would take short-cuts like that.

actually, the cursed restaurant on church and market would be the one by the bus stop on 14th. I have seen that place change hands... like 5 times already. Used to be chinese, now it is vietnamese and still no visitors whatsoever.

Ah, if only one were allowed to replenish the stock of wine from the local Safeway. Unfortunately the liquor laws in this country are a direct holdover from the days of Prohibition and are written with the intent of making former bootleggers (like Joe Kennedy and Seagrams)wealthy.

The so-called "three-tier" system should be abolished. Everyone would be better off. Except maybe former bootleggers.

Dear Protagonist:

we know of only the two I mentioned, what were the other? Cuvee had a nice little run, stayed there a least a few years, didn't it?

Cuvee had a few great dishes, but the wine list was awful. Rarer stuff, but pricey, and nothing domestic. How silly is that, only French wines, right here.

I think before Cuvee, there was a sandwich shop there, but this is going way, way back.

What restaurants were these? Cuvee was there for a long while, and they left the business rather than going out of business. Then there was the sausage place which never stood a chance anyway. What where the others before Cuvee?

Um, I've seen at least 4, and possibly 5 restaurants rotate through that space in the last 7 years. Onr or two of them were actually quite good.

It'll take more than an exorcist and some clam strips to take the curse off of that locale.
