SFist Barks and Whines: Argus Lounge

-1.jpegDogs, like children, can be very expensive. But the geniuses at the Sports Basement have come up with a promotion where your canine friend can save you money. This Saturday, June 10th, the Potrero Hill Sports Basement on 16th St. is hosting a Doggie Social from 9 a.m. until noon. Bring your pooch and get 15% off everything in the store. If you don’t have a dog, borrow one from a friend.

Sports Basement in the Presidio used to be one of our favorite stores because they welcomed (past tense) dogs inside. They changed that policy last year and we are afraid our behavior may have had something to do with it. We had been there many times and thoroughly enjoyed cruising the aisles and shopping. But the last time we went we decided to mark the Sports Basement and claim it as our own. This involved a significant amount of water (reprocessed) and a dozen paper towels. We apologize to all the dogs of San Francisco if indeed this caused they end of the dog friendly policy at that store.

With that confession off our chest we feel much lighter. And thirsty. Which is a great reason to check out our next dog friendly bar – Argus Lounge on Mission at Valencia.

Argus made us feel right at home. The bartender greeted us with a dog biscuit and the patrons all took the time to make our acquaintance. We enjoyed sitting on the vinyl booth benches and heard stories of Weezer – a Boston Terrier that frequented Argus and was the greatest bar dog ever. Sadly, Weezer went to doggie heaven two months ago but he is fondly remember with a large photo and shrine on the wall when you enter. 3.5 St. Bernards.
