SFMike:

it was Katia in red, on the left hand side if you sat in the orchestra, and Marielle in purple, on the right hand side. Katia is the leader (musically, I don't know/care off the stage) and the more extroverted. She threw herself off the bench at least three times to my count. She got some nervous giggles from embarrassed retirees next to us who found this a bit too much. They are tiny though, I don't see how else she could impart weight to her playing.

It was a nice concert. I didn't care much for MTT's way with Haydn as he doesn't quite get the humor somehow and the rhythms need to be a little less foursquare. The Mozart was much better and the Poulenc was just plain spectacular. It's become one of my new favorite pieces of music instantly.

By the way, on Friday evening the Cher lookalikes were wearing low-cut red and purple outfits that were quite wild, and the more physical sister in red just about threw herself off her piano bench at one point in the Poulenc concerto. Having read your review ahead of time, I didn't stick around for "La Valse" as the Poulenc was too perfect and I wanted to walk home with it in my ears.

Greg, no I haven't since this. It was in 2002, I did not have this gig yet. But at least it gives me some insight into MTT's composition style, so I know what to expect for the Goode performance. Thanks!

We have already seen MTT as a composer. You will remember, perhaps, the wind machine? No one would blame you if you repressed all memory of the event.
