When The Lights Go Down In The City

Earlier this week we told you about some of the great shows at the Mission Creek Music & Arts Festival, including a special performance by Dieselhed at 12 Galaxies on Sunday night. We're sending two of you to the show. Preview some songs off their 1999 album Elephant Rest Home and enter to win. (Contest ends Friday at 5pm. Winner will be notified via email.)

The ReplacementsAnother great show is happening at 12 Galaxies next Wednesday when Jackpine Social Club presents A Tribute To The Replacements featuring performances by John Doe, Kelley Stoltz, Penelope Houston and more. Enter to win two tickets to this night of tender balladry and drunken insanity. (Contest ends Tuesday at 5pm. Winner will be notified via email.)

Beyond the great shows that MCMF is presenting this week, there are a few others we want to tell you about. Tonight check out Bing Ji Ling with Honeycut, Bart Davenport's new project, at Cafe Du Nord, or see what all the fuss is about when The Duke Spirit rocks Popscene at 330 Ritch. On Saturday queue up at Amoeba for a free performance by Jason Lytle of Grandaddy. He'll be playing songs off Just Like the Fambly Cat which is out now. On Sunday George Clinton & Parliament / Funkadelic descend upon The Fillmore for a P-Funk Nation Celebration featuring Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, Raphael Saadiq and special guests. If you ever get a chance to see the documentary "Stranger: Bernie Worrell on Earth" we highly recommend it. On Monday, the excellently-named I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness performs with The Rogers Sisters at The Independent. We think their name is more exciting than their live show, but maybe we caught them on a bad day. ILYBICD also plays for free on Sunday at 2pm at Amoeba.

More recommendations after the jump.

EstheroRejoice because Tuesday brings the beginning of the Mountain Winery's concert season! Check out the full schedule and believe us when we say the drive to Saratoga is worth it to see artists like Fiona Apple, Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris and our personal favorite, Heart. Wednesday night has us in a quandary. We're definitely going to be at The Replacements tribute at 12 Galaxies, but we also can't miss an acoustic set by Esthero at the Independent. She blew us away when we saw her at The Fillmore last summer, so we know this show will be a good one.

And on a final note, WTF is up with http://www.helpmegetrandomwithladysovereign.com? Zach Slow says he's raising money to take Lady Sovereign on the town when she plays SF in June, and according to his site he's already raised over $600 in donations. OK, it's a clever idea and a funny site, haha, I guess we laughed, sorta, but are people really giving money to this cause? We're perplexed. But now Slow is Internet-famous. We're not sure what he really wants to gain out of this rigamarole, but we tip our hats to him anyway. Well played.
