Bay Area Blog Round-Up

So we here at the blog round-up are practically ecstatic over our new cable modem, and we promise it's not just because we're reading former SFist Violet Blue's blog. (Which is definitely NSFW.) So this weekend to celebrate our blazing fast connection speed at home we decided to browse MySpace for blogs.

This was a mistake. Maybe it's the heavy influence of text messaging, maybe it's the focus on music or photos, but apparently MySpace is not the place for a well-kept blog. At least not on the few hundred we looked at. We surfed to over 300 sites, and maybe 10 had blogs. And none of them were filled with anything more than "OMG, I got a job, can I handle working for the man? lol" We're not trying to be snarky, but after listening to way too many emo bands embedded in the pages we're a little overwrought and do wanna grow our bangs long enough to let them fall in front of our eyes again. Do you keep a blog on MySpace? Do you know of a good one? Let us know. It's not that we want to be hip, but we are kind of addicted to text, and another blog feed is always a good thing.

Sweet Juniper breaks out an old cassette and reminisces about jams and his friends and being a teenager, although his choice of music is hip-hop, not emo. Bonus points for name checking Cedar Point, The Amazement Park. Chad has a long post on three of his friends in the city, and you know, they do sound really cool. Is everyone, everywhere this creative and weird? Could the How Weird street fair happen anywhere else but here? We really don't think so.

Which is why it's kind of sad to read about Geese Aplenty's niece. We don't want to place blame about where exactly the school/day care/education system is broken, because who really knows, but when a two-year-old is beginning to be stigmatized by teacher's just because she's shy, well something's wrong.

But that's not to say that all criticism is bad. Edward Champion talks about fiction criticism and whether some humility may be a good thing when it comes to your own art.

Last week we linked you to endpoint's mysterious arachnid action-figure disappearance. This week, much like the gnome from Amelie, Spidey's sent back some pics of his travels--and trust us, Spidey has a rich inner-life.
