Wednesdays, The New Wednesdays
Om, shanti, shanti, shanti, Wednesday..... Tonight: After you visit Stephen Colbert's adopted eaglet Stephen Jr. at the SF Zoo, stop by the zoo's Great Hall for a talk by the Gilman Int'l Conservation Foundation, about their efforts to save the okapi. The okapi is an endandered zebra/giraffe-y-like African eland whose pleasing combination of vowels and consonants gives it a place of honor in the hearts of obsessive crossword puzzlers like ourselves. Reception at 6:30, talk at 7.
Thursday: Trippy! The Yerba Buena is screening movies of light shows originally presented live at Jefferson Airplane, Floyd, and Dead shows. Some of these are from film shot at the time, some are video versions of the original film, and some are dramatic reenactments by contemporary artists. We're sure what you're smelling at the show is medicinal. $8, 7:30 in the Screening Room, runs until Saturday.
and Friday: It's a full moon! Lace up your sturdy boots and hike either the Marin Headlands or Muir Woods. The hike in the Headlands goes on a steep trail for a 1/2 mile, while the hike in Muir Woods is 2 miles but on paved roads. The Headlands hike starts at 7:45, call 331-1540 to reserve a spot (limit of 40); the Muir Woods hike starts at 7:30, call 388-2596 to reserve. Children are not recommended on the Muir Woods hike but it looks like if your kids like to scramble up steep paths, you're okay in the Headlands.
