Food Blog Round-Up
We haven't really posted a lot on Shuna the past couple weeks, since confessing our blog crush on her. There are lots of Bay Area food blogs (close to 100 that we know about, and that's not counting the restaurant review blogs) and we like to spread the love. However, we're going to link to her a lot this week, and we don't feel bad about it at all. First off, we are in awe of the way she stunningly eviscerates a reader for complaining about the high prices of Cafe Gratitude, which Shuna liked. Seriously, it's like watching a mongoose take down a cobra--mesmerizing, lethal and so very, very right. She was probably already amped up from this post, explaining what actions she will take this May 1st to support the Day Without An Immigrant demonstrations for immigrants's rights, and dispensing tips about what her readers can do. In short, Shuna talks the talk, walks the walk, and writes poetry. She is a samurai of the kitchen.
Shuna isn't the only one concerned with politics and food, however. Kat, from Kungfoodie, passed along this link to a list of California protests you can participate in. Locavores are sponsoring an Eat Local Challenge, and inviting everyone to join in, increasing local workers's compensation and decreasing dependence on foreign oil. Chez Pim is joining in, Catherine at Food Musings is doing her vendor research, and cookiecrumb defends the challenge from "elitist" charges. Marc has a great map of the territory included in the Eat Local challenge for SF. The only reason we didn't use it for this piece is because it's too beautiful, and took too much work, we're sure, for us to just blatantly nick it. So head over and check it out.
And it was no end of fun to read Tana's post about a local ranch that includes the phrases "pig herding" and "fiasco." What more to you need to know? And hopefully we'll get this posted in time for you to make this party (Beer will flow!) to support local sustainability.
But not everything in the blogosphere is about politics. There was a whole series of decadent posts on desserts for St. George's day, and a couple conversations about lemons. Citizen Cupcake continues to complement their cupcakes with. . . ummmm. . . anyone know a word for music that starts with a "k" sound?
Our accountants love Gordonzola, and so do we. Thanks to their loving documentation of their Vermont Cheese trip, we're less likely to spend the summer on the opposite coast touring creameries. We'll just buy the cheese instead.
Finally, for food bloggers everywhere, or people who just like to read them, check out this page, where you can map out where your blog originates from, and find others in your area!
