Food Blogger Roundup
We swore we were done with Easter. We weren't going to mention it at all this week. We felt we'd used up our allotted portion of bandwidth on it, and that it was all played out. No more. And then. And then. This. We may be world-weary, we may be agnostic, but whatever we are we were jaw-droppingly amazed by Meathenge's Easter idea. We don't want to spoil it for you, so just go, go now. Don't worry, we'll be here after you've told all your friends and forwarded that link to everyone in your address book.
Cool, right? Now, as long as we've broken the Easter seal, we'll point you to this Bay Area Bites post on creative ways to deal with the extra Easter candy.
Off the sweets, onto savory. 101 Cookbooks has an educational and encouraging post, an appetizer towards cooking, if you will, about an easy dish with thousands of variations: hummus. Meanwhile, Tejal has some words for Tartine, and their alleged croque monsieur. Which leads us gracefully into our weekly discussion of cheese. A Full Belly points us in the direction of what sounds like a fabulous American tour of artisanal cheese makers, and Fork and Bottle reviews a lovely Italian drunken cheese.

As good as that cheese may be, the fact that it's not local is going to be an issue for Jen, who's spelled out the goals of the Eat Local Challenge. Bacon Press has a long post about tri-tip BBQ in the central valley that is all about its local flavor and technique. Celeste's posts on homemade sushi may be inspired by Memoirs of a Geisha, but the fish was all local.
Food Migration gets local, and is near and dear to our heart as a midwest tranplant falling in love with the ethos and food options in the Bay Area, but as she searches for her food niche, there are others who are very certain in their tastes.
Yesterday was Queen Elizabeth II's birthday. We're not sure if that influenced Tejal or not, but she has a fun little post on Queen Victoria Spongecake, while Tea pens an ode to her Mom for her birthday, Albion has a post on her mother's birthday cake, and Annie has a perfectly princess-y birthday cake for herself.
We'll end this week with a contest. One of these two links is a cake. One is not. Both made us whimper when we saw them. Good luck.
