Fight For Your Right To Party Party

Bunnification_2.jpgOne of our readers just forwarded along an email announcing the creation of a new political animal in town -- not the Green Party, not the Democratic Party (and the press release seems to assume without saying that it's certainly not the Republican Party), but the SF Party Party. Check out their leader, Crash, to your right. The motto is: "Like the Green Party.... without that funny smell. ....Like the Democratic Party without all that money."

The Party Party's organizing on a platform promoting later hours for bars, more public transit, bicycle-friendly policies, skate parks, and motorcycles. They say they're just like Rescue MUNI and the bike coalition, except "those guys are mired in the political process and we just want to have fun."

Meetings are at the Toronado, and prospective members, please note: "We are here to have fun... not to do a lot of work. We keep our meetings less than five minutes, so we don't waste too much jukebox money or lose the pool table. " Also, they don't want you to donate money either: "keep it or give it to the Democratic Party so they can buy themselves a message (or at a minimum a massage)."

Their first event is calling other party-party minded folks to show up at the hearing on Friday at 1 p.m. in City Hall about keeping Golden Gate Park car-free. Stop by if you're interested. The (unedited) platform party of their (not un-hilarious) press release is after the jump.

Thanks to the reader who passed this along! Tip us off about your new political party.

WHO IS THE “PARTY PARTY” ..... why are you bothering me?
-------------------------------------------------------
When we abandoned the original plan of waiting until summer to go public, we asked our hot French intern to compile a list of the 1,000 most influential SF musicians, activists, politicos, artists, planners, party people and porn stars.... and you made this list. Congratulations! To the extent that we might have accidentally pulled in a dozen or so nimby suburbanites and maybe a hippie or two, please accept our apologies, hit reply with “unsubscribe” in the header and go back to watching the Sopranos or smoking some pot or whatever you were up to before we disturbed you.

Ok, people, now that the nimby suburbanites have left, heres what you need to know about us:

1)We are here to have fun... not to do a lot of work. We keep our meetings less than five minutes, so we don't waste too much jukebox money or lose the pool table. Right now HQ is the Toronado in the Lower Haight but it moves around as we see fit.

2)We don't want your money. Keep it or give it to the Democratic Party so they can buy themselves a message (or at a minimum a massage). Maybe they can use it to hire Bill Clinton to fly in and explain why we should build a football stadium in Hunters Point.

3)While we love the SF progressive groups and most of us are members of some of them (RescueMuni, WalkSF, SFBikeCoalition, SPUR, TLC, and the whole lot)... its an unrequited love.... you gotta forward this email to your fellow members for us, none of the leaders of these groups are gonna do it for you (you can ask them why).

4)Point number 3, above, does not in any way imply a love (unrequited or otherwise) for the SF Democratic Party. Ugh. Puke. Gag us with a silver spoon....

5)Finally, we will NEVER, ever, share your info with anyone, but we will hook you up with our hot single friends (oh, and you will only get about an email a month from us).

So hang around and check out the good life. Our platform is below, drop us a line and lets win this Car free space in the Golden Gate Park this summer... maybe have a beer and catch some music in the meanwhile. Here's what you can do to win Car Free Space in the Park:

Oh, if you have any events for the web calendar, ship em in and we will rock with you! If you want to get a glass of wine at the Hotel Biron next week and tell us what we missed with the platform....thats cool, too.

Catch you Friday 1pm at City Hall... we'll be the ones wearing party hats!

FRANCISCO "PARTY" PARTY

as always, no money changes hands, except to buy the occasional beer

INFO ON THE SAN FRANCISCO “PARTY” PARTY
--------------------------------------
The time has come to stand up to the growing commune of SUV driving suburbanites who seem determined to turn our city into a sterile gated community. The SF “Party” Party supports music, art, motorcycling, bicycling, and skating (and long past 2a.m.). We demand the prioritization of public space and public safety over the continuing accommodation of private cars by our policy makers who currently seem to focus all of their energy pandering to NIMBY neighborhood groups that do not reflect the values of a world class city.

Introducing:

The San Francisco Party Party. We are currently 350 members and growing. Come join us as we party at Benders Bar and Grill (19th @ South Van Ness) any Monday night after 9pm as we play some pool and make our plans to overthrow the City Government [NOTE THERE WILL HAVE SUSPENDED MONDAY GATHERINGS WHILE WE WORK ON THE GOLDEN GATE PARK – COME FIND US IN THE TORONADO IN THE LOWER HAIGHT].

The condensed platform:

1) Keep SF open til 4am. This 1am nonsense is ridiculous. Period

2) Fix Muni. Paris, London, New York. why is SF not on that list.... maybe because we are a crappy suburb with leaders that don't have the political will to prioritize transit over cars. Just maybe.

3) Bicycles everywhere.... hotties, not hippies!. Let's make this a reality.

4) Motorcycles and motorcyclists are about all this city currently has going for it right now,.... so lets do more to make SF bike-able. What makes the Zeitgeist the best bar in SF? Why do dykes on Bikes lead the pride parade every year. That's right....bikers are bad ass.

5) Lets make the Golden Gate Gark car-free on Saturdays. Its worked great on Sundays for 35 years... why can't our current city leaders make this happen on Saturdays, too. (PS it works well in Central Park... eh... funny what can get done when policy makers work for the public benefit).

6) Stop harassing skateboarders & build some public skateparks. Who decided that city funds should be spent making SF unsafe for skateboarders & that cops should spend time ticketing kids rather than redlight runners? Skateparks are the modern equivalent of tennis courts, except that the same amount of space will accommodate 5 times as many kids.

Our Spokesman:

Introducing Evan "Crash" Arkush. We have installed Crash as our representative on the Board of Supervisors. Crash has gracefully accepted the title "District 5 Shadow Supervisor" and will be representing party people all over the city in our fight against suburbanization. District 5 is the Haight, which is ground zero in the fight for our right to party!
