Whoops! That was a brain-fart about Lieberson in the Mahler 8th. She was never scheduled for that.

These programs, including her originally scheduled "Ruckert Lieder," are in preparation for an East Coast tour that includes Carnegie Hall, so all the East Coast blogs are lamenting the cancellation of Lieberson there.

I liked the program, but I would not have played it in this order. I guess they wanted the adagio in the 2nd half to warm up the orchestra first, but concluding on the Wagner was strange, a step back in 19th century. Was LHL scheduled in next month 8th?

I love "Matthew Bourne, please pick up the white courtesy phone."

Interesting review though it sure sounds like a weird program, almost as weird as this coming week's which you referenced (Webern, "Petrushka" and Ives' "Holidays Symphony"?) I wouldn't be counting on Lieberson showing up for the Mahler Eighth, by the way. The word is out that she's having serious health problems, so say a few prayers. She's awesome.
