With Arms Wide Open

drowning_out_battlecry_web.jpgLocal hotels are all smiles as they prepare for cable news talking heads to storm the city en masse as our local politicians have put us in the cross hairs again. And what did they do to bring this upon us again? Go after a bunch of fresh-faced kids. Well, Jesus loving fresh-faced kids, the ones that were here over the weekend for their "Battle Cry for a Generation” shindig. We hear those rallies were hookup city.

Anyways, a couple of days before the big doings, your San Francisco Board of Supervisors decided to weigh in and issued a resolution condemning the rally as an “act of provocation" by an "anti-gay," "anti-choice" organization. Not only that, but the Board said that the rally would "negatively influence the politics of America's most tolerant and progressive city." Which is true. We've noticed that ever since the rally, we've been thinking about abstaining from sex, listening to Creed, and getting warm fuzzy feelings towards the President. Freedom IS on the march. And nothing says "tolerant" and "progressive" like holding up signs comparing the kids to Hitler Youth.

Jumping into the mix was Assemblyman Mark Leno who described the Battle Criers, or as Bay Area Indy Media called them "Hateful Christian Fascists," as "they're loud, they're obnoxious, they're disgusting and they should get out of San Francisco." On Monday, Leno slightly recanted his statements, saying that they were "not one of my prouder moments."

This has gotten the conservatives in full snit mode, accusing the city of declaring a "fatwa" against Christians. Fox News should be on its way soon looking for people to throw in front of their blowhard lions and adding it to their long list of signs that the Christians are under siege in this country. You know, like getting yelled at by lesbians with dyed hair is equivalent to getting handed death sentences for converting to Christianity.

Either way, it just goes to show that Stephen Colbert might have been right when he recently named Jesus as the #1 threat we face in his most recent Threat Down

Just goes to show that in SF the best way to fight Facism is with Facism!

It's so amazing to me that a small group of kids promoting whatever they feel is right - which may be wrong, but whatever - gets snubbed by the Bay Area that prides itself on openness & acceptance.

But where else will I get Peet's? Eh, what to do.

I'm unsure as to why we in San Francisco need to greet with open arms, hippie peace signs, and lots o' sugary "openness" a bunch of people from out of state who come here , condemn and attack every single person in the city limits as a degenerate, charge 100+/ticket for their rally, where they continue to rail on and on about the alleged "war on Christianity" when in fact a) people in SF would rather be left alone, b) aren't all degenerates, and c) Christianity is so dominant in this nation only a fool would think we're in the eral of the Romans.

More to the point - I would never think to organize a rally in some city in the South where we'd go sit on City Hall steps and label everyone something nasty just because they don't believe what we do. If that's how they wanna live in their hometowns, that's fine. People here choose a different way. This is not Bosnia, this is not Rwanda, you're not supposed to demonize a group of people in a city just because they don't believe everything you believe chapter and verse?

Tolerance for these folks? Hmm given that they could give two sh*ts about me, watch how much I care about them....boo f*cking hoo.

they were quite the wild bunch: on saturday i walked around the chaos of sbc park, where they held their rally, and was called a butt-fucker by a group of teens. also, the line coming out of mcdonald's on third street almost went around the block. trash.

Free speech is free for people you disagree with, too.
