I actually work with Bailey down here in South Park. I have known this fine looking pooch for about 5 years. Here is what I do know after reading some of your posts.

To the guy named Rolf (Your name sounds like another word for puking), dog's are normally more stinky then humans. I will give you that much. But not here in rainy SF. Have you seen any bums lately? I do, every frikkin day walking through South Park. And guess what? They smell a lot worse then my pal Bailey's worse day after a tasty burrito with sour cream.

As for resident dog breed expert Olivia, you might want to read up on breeds. There are plenty of breeds that don't exactly like to do much. BAILEY is included. Bailey sleeps all day until lunch time. She doesn't like to walk just about anywhere except the deli. Great Danes are also great apartment dogs and there are others. Not all dogs need a huge yard to run around in.

I agree with you that there are irresponsible dog owners. Oh, but that doesn't apply to parents I am sure (Note sarcasm Andrea Yates). Suck it up. Not all are irresponsible. And if you see someone abusing their right to own a dog, then report it.

Olivia, I got your point. I'm glad you're a dog lover. So am I. Unfortunately there are more dogs in the world than homes for them. Most responsible dog owners do get their pets spayed or neutered. Even though city life isn't the best situation for a dog, especially big dogs, I give great kudos to anyone in the City who takes in a dog or any animal. Small apartment or big house it doesn't matter so long as the animal is loved and cared for. The truth is many people who live in big houses in the 'burbs leave their dogs in dog runs, which consist of a long concrete sidewalk type area that is fenced in on the outside of their houses. Or they'll keep them in a dog kennel, which is another word for cage. I bet most dogs would rather lounge on a soft couch in the City than have to be outside in the heat or rain and only have concrete to sit on next to their big houses. And really, if anything, we are their slaves, not the other way around. They don't pick up our feces or go to work to support us.

And before I forget again, great post Eve. Dog owners are always looking for places where they and their faithful companions can hang out together. Dogblog is awesome. Someone tell me those funny, furry-headed monsters aren't happy just being outside people watching.

Yo mama, you call yourself a dog lover yet you don't see that my post was actually in favour of dogs - in favour of them living lives that do not entail having their unflinching love of humanity used against them and being enslaved for our convenience. I do not suggest that dogs are killed at all, rather I suggest that people stop breeding them in such numbers, and people who are great dog-lovers move to where they can have large, fenced yards in order to give their beloved beasties a proper home.

Why is it assumed that if you don't like dogs, you're a jerk? I'm more interested in people, and want to have conversations with them, instead of sitting around with you and watching how cute your dogs are.

God what a bunch of crabby dog-haters on this board. Glad I don't know any of you jerks in real life. Yo mama, you summed it up.

And for the record: well groomed and cared for dogs do not stink.

Secondly: How do you know it's the DOGS shitting in the parks? Last time I saw someone crapping/peeing on the ground it was a HUMAN.

Dogs are, in fact, stinky. More stinky than people. This is a fundamental law of nature, and to deny it is to also deny the essential non-human nature of dogs.

Much the same could be said about people with kids, Olivia. At least you CAN tie a dog to a post and at least you CAN leave it at home when you go to work. No $1200/month childcare when you have a dog. Besides, any dog would rather be locked inside all day (most just lounge around and sleep for god's sake) until their humble human servant returns to take them out to do their business than be euthanized because people like you, Olivia, refuse to believe they deserve a place in this world too. I'd much rather hang out with a dog than a snotty, germ ridden child. Lastly, many a human smell far worse than most dogs. DOG LOVERS OF THE WORLD UNITE AND TAKE OVER!!!

Or, if only more people would realise that having a dog in the city is impractical and sometimes borders on abusive. Having to sit in a tiny apartment and hold your piss and shit in all day? Getting hitched to a parking meter and waiting 2 hours in the rain while your person finishes their coffee? Getting to run around for only one hour a day? This is not the life dogs were made for.

Bringing them into human establishments where other humans do not want to smell them or deal with them... not so great.
