We Read The Weeklies

65990189_1d349ac8e9_m[1].jpgSFist Sam was kind enough to take a picture for WRTW for us -- isn't it gorgeous? Thanks, SFist Sam!

Last week's winner, the SF Weekly: Tributes to the dearly departed PUNI, including a hilarious letter from the NextBus people that we know SFist MattyMatt will enjoy. New section called "Sucka Free City," with a profile of Killing My Lobster. Where will illegal indoor smokers go now that Sherlock's Haven is closing? Cover: land use art collective group Rebar. Meredith's back -- sorry, Ced. New music gossip column, Let's Get Killed, by new music editor Jennifer Maerz. Welcome, Jennifer! Rhett Miller. And SFist Eve's horoscope: she may or may not like her job this week.

The Guardian: Tim Redmond also thinks it's hilarious that Chris Daly is making Gavin Newsom go in person to all the Transbay Terminal meetings. It's hard out there for a school board member (Jill Wynns). A father has to solve his own son's murder. Hey, did you know Ross Mirkarimi went to the Police Academy? We hope he was the one who made animal noises. Laptop and iPod thefts -- you know, maybe not the best idea to leave your $1500 laptop unattended as you buy your cheese danish. Cover: Thorough and complete Noise Pop coverage. We had no idea Two Gallants got their name from James Joyce! We thought it was a Highlights reference. And a dance columnist reveals she was attacked by a swan in her youth.

The EBX, the Metro, and the Pick of the Week, after the jump.

The East Bay Express: For some reason, not delivered to our usual pickup spot today! So we'll read it online. In click order: the decline of the women's Bellevue Club on Lake Merritt. Did you know it's against the law to pick mushrooms in East Bay parks? Culinary stalkers object! Hector Reyna, a libertarian who's run for Oakland mayor over 12 times, and run for elected office over 50 times, and never won. Dude, we have to do an SFist interview of this guy. E-40 at the Emeryville Tower Records! Yay Area! Why can't they make the Bear's Lair all-ages? And pimping with The Jacka.

The Metro: Where's the great San Jose novelist? Iraqi blogger Salam Pax talks about the blog as literature at SJSU. The Fly gives props to SF for its negotiations for city garbage collectors (as opposed to SJ's). Cover: San Jose compose Henry Mollicone and his choral mass for the homeless. Soul food in Santa Clara. Check out that spread! On Friday, a live orchestra will perform to video game clips -- a few lucky audience members will play a game as the orchestra vamps the score. Why doesn't anything good like that happen in San Francisco? Todd Inoue reports from SXSW -- we particularly liked the picture captioned "Tell me when to Go! Team." A high-energy hyphy ha! And Straight Dope: do cemeteries ever leak dead body into the water supply (no, but as a bonus, there's an explanation of "grave wax" in the column).

Pick of the Week: Lotta good stuff out there this week. But we'll give it to the Guardian, mostly for Harvilla a run for the money on the must-read music coverage!
