Bay Area Blog Pulse

messianic.jpgSFist Jacob steps up to the blog pulse plate, while SFist Jackson's on hiatus.

All anyone can talk about is the snow, snow, snow. (OK, those last two are actually tagged as "hail," but you get the point and the pics are pretty.) In our eyes, all this cold just means the onset of summer.

Still, if you're jonesing for some tropical island loveliness, head over to the Humu Kon Tiki's San Francisco section to catch up on all the tiki goings-on. We promise that the crushed ice used in all umbrella drinks is just like snow!

Humuhumu has a post of New Zealand artist Dick Frizell's transformation of Mickey Mouse into a Tiki icon. This got us thinking about all the outsider art that happens in the Bay Area, so we strolled on over to The Painted Ground of San Jose Avenue, a "non-exhaustive study of the various school of sidewalk graffitists that work in and around the Mission at the base of Noe Valley," to catch some of the amazing street art.

Liz Henry also documents graffiti and other public art, as well as keeping up her poetry and writing blog. Plus she has purple hair, which we totally can get behind.

And even legitimate art wants to be cool. Potrero Hill, we're sure, is checking out SXSW.

After the jump: More bloggery, on MUNI yvesdropping, robots, and Valencia Gardens. Picture by DDEThomas from Painted Ground. SFist Jacob, contributing.

Less about creative graffiti and more about the politics of real estate and urban renewal, Matt Jalbert has posted some pics and is starting a discussion about the redeveloped Valencia Gardens. There are some shots of some tagging on the walls of the Gardens in mid-destruction, but we're more interested in the pics of the new buildings, which he'll photo and post soon.

This could probably go into Yvesdropping, or tagged as MUNI for that matter, but it's a blog, so it goes here. We especially like the tart little detail at the end of the post that proves Sandra Heikkinen really knows what makes MUNI extra-special. If you've got a little more cash, take a cab ride, where you can join in the performance.

And while you're in the back seat if you really start to hunger for some bone-crushing missile firing robot to get you through the streets and highways, take solace in your lego mecha.

Blowing things up always seems like the appropriate reaction to us on the freeway, although we're not sure we'd go to the lengths V does. We're a little nervous about the movie too, seeing as how all other Moore projects adapted to the screen lacked that certain, well, brilliance, of his. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, we're talking to you. Still, perhaps unwisely, we are excited about this opening and take solace in Edward Champion's rebuttal of the New Yorker pan. Of course, talk to us next week after we've seen the movie and we may say something completely different.
