Bay Area Blog Pulse

Sasha dishes the news about TechConnect -- RFP deadline went by without so much as a press conference. Big news is that Google and Earthlink have teamed up, and that Houston's recent WiFi RFP was made public (The City threatened to sue when theirs was leaked). Francisco De Costa claims a victory after the public forum on Bayview redevelopment. San Jose Inside's Single Gal takes a look at the six folks who want Ron Gonzalez' job. And Pepper offers some analysis on the reports that Herr Governator's rising in the polls again.
NorCal politics has moved -- to Calitics. Jane Kim announces the date of Eddy Zheng's final immigration hearing -- take the time to check out Eddy's blog. Coastsider reports on the plight of students who are forced to take SamTrans to school and back, also announces that the La Honda Voice has joined the blogosphere.
Tired of news and politics? How about some sports and music? Jon Swenson has pictures and a report on George Hincapie's victory in the San Jose stage of the Tour of California. The City takes a look at the Warriors season at the break, says not as bad as it could have been. Bill Swerbenski posts audio of the recent Dirty Dozen Brass Band show at The Independent. And with a possible move to San Francisco, Kevin Smokler is guessing that "Spin already has [job] inquiries even though they haven't advanced a single step towards California."

You mean like the article today in the Chronicle about the wi-fi bids? Is that the Chronicle article on wi-fi that is not in the Chronicle? Or are you talking about another Chronicle that is not the SF Chronicle?
Um, I didn't mention the Chronicle, but now that you bring it up...
The RFP deadline was end-of-day Monday, and was marked by a meager press release. The post that I linked to went up Wednesday, the same day that CNet, the Associated Press and Mercury News published their articles. Ryan Kim's story for the Chronicle ran today, Thursday.
I linked to the blog post because this is a roundup of interesting stories in local blogs, and Sasha's post went up at 8:52am on Wednesday, before the Chronicle had even run the wire report online. I mentioned the fact that there was no press conference because, well, The City didn't hold a press conference (which is rather out of character for the Newsom administration).
While personally I don't hold the Chronicle in particularly high regard, I certainly didn't snark on them here. Though word on the street is that they lost millions in ads from SBC over David Lazarus' citywide wifi boosterism.
