SFist Watches: TV Love

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. We think. At least, that's what we've heard. You see, even in our most wide-eyed and bushy-tailed days of young love, we never really cared much for Valentine's Day. Sure, we've had a few that were memorable, but for the most part it's been too much expectation, very little pay off, and as a result, we often try and pretend the whole holiday doesn't even exist.

However, perhaps you're not like us, and Valentine's Day truly means another chance for new love, or the validation of a current one. If it's new love you're looking for, maybe you'll be participating in TiVo's San Francisco Singles Mixer, where TiVo users are paired up based on their Wish Lists. A cute idea, and it looks like it caught on quick, because registration for the event is now closed. However, if you're one of the people who will be attending, be sure to let us know how it went!

Once upon a time, we just couldn't get enough of ABC's "The Bachelor." We had intense discussions about the possible match-ups, and went to season finale "Bachelor parties." How things have changed. Now we tend to forget that the show is even still on the air (and it is, tonight at 9 p.m. on ABC). But we've kissed the Bachelor good-bye, and have fallen in love with another dating show, "#1 Single" on E!, in which pop singer Lisa Loeb searches for love. Now, we've never been huge fans of Lisa Loeb's music, but we admit to kind of liking Lisa Loeb herself. She's cute, she's perky, she's smart, and she seems like a nice enough gal. She's also no stranger to reality shows, being that she and former beau Dweezil Zappa had their own show on the Food Network for a while. They have since broken up, and now Lisa's looking for a new dining partner. (And as an aside, how horrible must it be to break up with someone, and then have reruns of your dining experiences with them popping up occasionally on the Food Network?) The biggest thing we appreciate about this dating show is, Lisa isn't 20 years old--in fact, she's nearing 40. But she also hasn't been single in a very long time, and is finding the whole dating thing a little perplexing. Her naivete, paired with a healthy dose of cynicism, makes her an appealing heroine, and we usually come out of every episode hoping she ends up happy. We also like that one of her gal pals is the awesome Illeana Douglas. We want her to come to our apartment and help us feng shui the place!

So if you're home tomorrow evening and want to watch someone else struggle with their love life for a change, you can catch a marathon of "#1 Single" on E! starting at 8 p.m. Or, if you'd just prefer to see the bit where Lisa Loeb walks around in a thong, check it out on YouTube.
