Stuff To Do If You're Bored

Saturday: So much to do! Berkeley's Impact Theatre's Hamlet opens Friday February 10, and runs Thursday-Saturdays at 8 p.m. until March 18. Their Othello and MacBeth kicked ass, and we can't wait to see what they do with the Greatest Dane.
If we decide not to cross the bridge, we're hitting Root Division's Flypaper event, "an evening of film, art, music and fashion." Doors open at 7, runway show is at 8. It's all happening at Gallery 3175 @ Root Division ( 3175 17th Street).
Sunday: The Xylem Folkestra Project is a collaboration between violinist/composer Kaila Flexer and the Berkeley-based Crowden School, and will feature new Balkan-inspired works by Flexer as well as traditional Balkan music for listening and dancing. The audience will be invited to participate in a Balkan dance class with Balkan dance instructor Lise Liepman one hour prior to each show. Show up at 12 for the lesson, 1 for the show, at The Swedish American Hall, above Cafe du Nord at 2174 Market Street. Get your tickets here.
Monday: We keep hearing about this Valentine's Day Underwear party at the Makeout Room (3225 22nd btw Mission & Valencia). Word is that it's a five buck cover with pants, free with no pants. Our favorite part of the release is this part: " Arrive en masse with Critical Ass! Meet up at 11pm at the Phone Booth to enjoy a safe, circutous and pants free ride to the club!" Folks, you can't make this s**t up. Since we know that people will give us $5 to keep our damn pants on, that's how we're rolling, but we look forward to seeing how the rest of y'all fare.
Tuesday: We're celebrating V-day with a visit to SF State for BENT: Gender and Sexuality in Contemporary Scandinavian Art. The show runs from February 11 - March 16, but it's just too sweet to go on the holiday of love, you know? "Through photography, video and film,(the artists) draw from the rich media bank of images of masculinity and femininity circulated in advertising, film, historical art and popular culture. Constructing dialogues between past, present and future, and acknowledging the growing role mediated images play in culture, here the artists explore the importance of images of gender and sexuality in formations of contemporary identity." See it Tuesdays through Saturdays from 12-4 p.m. and on Wednesdays 12-6 p.m., at the Fine Arts Gallery at SF State's Fine Arts Buliding.
