We'd like to take a moment to break from our usual schedule of links to Gavin Newsom gossip, Web 2.0 snark and other Frisco-centric blog boosterism to highlight the plight of Survival Research Labs. Apparently a quarter-century of creating literally bleeding-edge art from the electro-mechanical detritus of the modern world isn't enough to keep the bulldozers at bay. That's right, having already been blacklisted by the San Francisco Fire Department from ever performing in their home town, SRL is being booted from their compound to make way for f**king condos.

We were honored to attend a raucous party honoring the Lunar New Year, celebrating the recent show in LA's Chinatown and grieving for the imminent loss of their home. Honestly, it may have been the weirdest, coolest art and work space we've ever seen. What other group of people would open up their creative lair to strangers, serve them dim sum, and then hand them fireworks that, how shall we say, were locally sourced?* To give you an idea, here are photos from the party by Scott Beale, video of the show in LA by Eddie Codel and commentary from SRL veteran SFist Violet. On that note, let's welcome some new kids to the bloggy block. First, a recommendation from SFist MattyMatt that we're sure the SRL crew can appreciate: Trembicky, an online forum for complaining about your landlord. The two posted for California are both here by the Bay, and man are they doozies. Scott Beale passed along a new San Francisco Blog, ess-eff.com -- and we like the attitude. Finally, Manuel Guerzoni pointed us to his new blog, the San Francisco Daily Photo. How cool is this town?
