SFisting: Our Famous Local Sex Podcasters, For Reals

We're thrilled to the gills that the dailies are learning about this cool new sex podcasting thing all the kids are doing with their computers.
While we loved the SF Bay Guardian's podcasting piece last year, we felt kinda like the Chron needed a pat on the head and a cookie when they ran yet another lame duck piece on sex podcasting last weekend telling us for the second time that our friend Susie Bright is a local sex podcaster, when in fact she is neither local nor does she have a podcast. (Santa Cruz based Bright has a pay-for-play Audible radio show; podcasts are free audio files with subscrption-enabling RSS tag enclosures published in a blog format -- big, big difference.)
We undertsand it's not like anyone has time to read last Summer's Wall Street Journal or Newsweek, which held up a veritable sign with a big red arrow pointing to the world of San Francsico sex podcasting. Even if it was a pretty neon blinky sign big enough to point out the fact that we're just filthy with these internationally popular aural sex-a-holics.
But wait, you say -- what is this wonderful filthiness, the untold sex podcasting riches that have gone so woefully overlooked? Behold a sample of some internationally (and extremely) popular local sex podcasters, sure to make your iPod feel used in all the right ways.

Whorecast: Melissa Gira
Who's one of the most popular podcasters in iTunes? Our very own Whorecast, that's who! Professional local sex worker and all-around smarty pants Melissa Gira's podcast covers a variety of sex topics, though we love listening to "The First Naked Podcaster" podcasting nude from her San Francisco bathtub where she splahes around and makes us think about steamy ipods, wayward bubbles and those ubiquitous SF Victorian clawfoot tubs.

Fetish Flame
Another extremely popular podcast that is one of the most-linked on the web and another iTunes darling, Fetish Flame is "A couple's exploration into the darker side" and includes funny interviews with dominatrixes, and local legends like our own Dr. Carol Queen. What's more, those of us who sorely miss Dr. Queen's "Queen of Hearts" column that got axed when the East Bay Express went all New Timesy on us can tune in to Fetish Flame in the coming weeks, where the Queen herself will be resuming her column in podcast form -- so get your sex questions ready for the royal treatment.

Super Smart Radio Whore
Popular and a true podcasting pioneer, yet lately missing in action, Simply billed as "a sex education podcast", hip and urbane San Francisco denizen SSRW seems to have been the first podcast dedicated exclusively to sex; her shows include tips on subjects like getting laid using the internet, female ejaculation, and more. That's right, we can celebrate that were there first, and our Super Smart Whore is the evidence.

Four Minutes, Once a Week
The Bay Area is home to the most widely-published and bestselling sex authors in the world, and Sage Vivant is one of them -- don't miss her podcast rife with fresh, original material. Ever-prolific erotic author Vivant makes her living writing custom erotica for clients at Custom Erotica Source; here she reads a delightfully nasty short piece, once a week. Even though once a week never seems like enough of Vivant's sexy voice, listeners get special favors in the form of free erotic book giveaways and exclusive content and a wide range of sexual fantasies.

Full disclosure: SFist Violet has her own sex podcast called Open Source Sex that is no stranger to iTunes' infamous top ten; it has a rabid, cult-like following. Just don't use the Kool-Aid flavored lube.
