Stuff To Do If You're Bored

photo5.gifSaturday: We're strapping ourself into a corset and heading to the Great American Music Hall for The Gilded Bat, the sixth annual Edwardian Ball. Part gothic ball, part evil cabaret, there will be music, burlesque, and ballroom dancing. Friend of SFist Jill Tracy will be performing at 9:15, so don't be late! Buy tickets here.

Sunday: We're hitting the Palace of Fine Arts to watch the public auditions for San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival. "Ninety-five Northern California dance companies representing dance traditions from around the world will perform hoping for a coveted spot in the 2006 San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival. Artists present their very best work, in full costume and many with live musical accompaniment. The auditions offer a rare opportunity to enjoy intricate Korean court dances, trick and fancy rope dances from the American Southwest, enchanting Persian dances, sizzling Argentinean tango and milangas, twirling and graceful Mexican folkloric dances and even Hip-Hop." It's only 5 bucks for the day, which runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Monday: For longer than we can remember, we've wondered what was going on Monday nights at the Sunset's St. Paul's Presbyterian Church . We'd see folks in strange garb, and mysterious chanting would emanate from the church, scaring the heck out of SFist Franny. At last, we have our answer! Every Monday night is square dancing class from 7:30-9. The next 12-week session of classes begins Monday night, with the first two classes free of charge, and the following classes $5 each. It's true, folks, everything is better in the Sunset.

Tuesday: We can't believe it, but we're actually going to MacHomer (watch out, the site is offensively Flashy), Rick Miller's one man show in which he acts Shakespeare's MacBeth as cast with characters from The Simpsons. You can't make this stuff up, folks. It's at CalShakes at 8 p.m., and it's funny as hell, if the audio clips we listened to are any indication.
