Wow! We just got off the phone with Ralph Arlyck, who reminded us that his film Following Sean, (which we know a lot of you saw at last year's SFIFF) is opening tonight at the Lumiere. Arlyck made a short about 4 year old Sean, when he lived in the Haight in the 60s. This film shows what he found when he caught up with him 30 years later. How did a preschool aged child of the 60s weather the storms of the intervening decades? See the film this weekend and find out. The filmmakers will be at tonight's 7:30 & 9:45 p.m. screenings, or you can see them tomorrow at the East Bay's Act 1 and 2 at the 1:45 & 4:30 p.m. screenings, or at 7:15 at Marin's Rafael.
The Balboa is also featuring a filmmaker event, Duma director Carroll Ballard appears at Saturday's 2:40 and 4:50 shows. We know, a movie about a boy and his pet cheetah sounds kind of cheesy, but believe us when we tell you that it's so much more than that. It's an exciting, complex movie that avoids the typical "my best pal is my pet" pitfall of making the animal just like people.
And don't forget to get to the Castro this weekend for the Berlin and Beyond festival. You know we'll be there!
How about you? What are you going to see this weekend? Let us know in the comments!
