We Read The Weeklies

...any way we want to, got it?

This week -- with 100% less poo! Well, we hope. Last week's triumph of the Guardian was a shocker, let's see how our three competitors fare in this, the last We Read The Weeklies of 2005.

The Guardian pulls no punches with its cover story on The Year in Film. Daly vs the Ellis Act. Mirkarimi's Comcast metaphor comes up again. More on the HopeNet raid. Fascinating piece on the day laborer hierarchy. We love going to the gun range! Yes! The Old Chelsea! Everybody writes about movies, we agree with some of them. Marke B's New Years Eve recs. Our horoscope is accurate to a fault.

The Express cover is a "year in", too, but it's the story of the past year in comic form. They're all big-ass PDFs we're not going to link to, but you have GOT to check them out. The Oakland Ballet dances to a tape?! We agree with Eric Arnold on Hick-Hop. Oh wow Savage Love is all bringing your slave to Christmas with the family and accidental hand jobs (not yet on line). How will the Weekly's non-truncated version top that?

The Weekly's cover is on Paraag Marathe, a nice switch from all the year-end stuff. (Is SFist the kettle or the pot in this scenario? In honor of Jackson, let's go with the pot.) Matt Smith on local talk radio. Harmon Leon also concerns himself with the airwaves -- did Matt and he decide to dress like twins today, or what? Dog Bites craps on the Chronicle, a sport the whole family can enjoy! Castlevania is still around? Karen Zuercher, we promise that you could enjoy going to the library, if you'd just give it a try. Tomorrow you'll see that Ced's right about Brody (as usual). Everyone should follow Brock Keeling's rules for NYE. Hell, Brock Keeling should follow Brock Keeling's rules for NYE. Katy, we'd remember you if you'd have come to our damn party! The last Savage Love letter is about finding wheelchairs sexy, which we're so not gonna touch except to say that we really enjoyed Murderball. Rob Brezsny clearly hates us.

And the top dog in the final We Read the Weeklies of 2005? It's the crap-free East Bay Express, because the year in comics was not only so so so best, but was fast, fun, and easy to read -- just what we need when we're sitting in our office at 4:52 p.m. on the last work day of the year. East Bay Express, you hit the spot! Way to come back from last week's defecation disaster!
