It's raining buckets out there. It's raining so hard, it's practically washed the streets of North Beach clean of tourists. Not only that, but we're getting some exciting thunder and lightning! Man are we glad we got all our moving done last weekend -- we saw one poor soul driving an open-bed pickup that had wood furniture and an uncovered mattress. Moving a mattress is one thing, moving a wet mattress is really gonna suck.
SFist Rita (always looking out for the staff) was worried about flooding in North Beach earlier this week, and now we can report the corners of Powell and Columbus on Union are now under a couple of inches of water thanks to blocked or overflowed storm drains. We don't even want to know what it's like over in the Barbary Coast or Financial District, where it's flat fill not much higher than sea level. The good news is that the cloud cover has brought with it some slightly warmer temperatures -- allowing us to keep the windows open and delight in the screams of visitors getting hit with a wall of water from a passing Muni bus hitting a puddle. Also, 14" of new snow reported today at Olympic Valley, where over half the trails and two-thirds of the lifts are already open.
