ChronicleWatch, Where Are You?

The Examiner reports on something that seems like perfect fodder for the good old ChronicleWatch (SFist Rita, when can we see another ChronicleWatch Watch? We loved that feature!): Apparently, the streetlights all along Van Ness are consistently broken, and little action has been taken to repair them.
Residents have been complaining for about a year, with scant help from city officials. SFPUC,which oversees the lights, blames the problems on "aging infrastructure and a complicated transmission system that must be shut off entirely when any work is being done." The SFPUC will be asking for the $34 million it would cost to completely replace the Van Ness Avenue street lights in next year’s budget, and is presently requesting $2.5 million for temporary improvements.
Until then, please be careful when crossing the frequently dark intersection of Jackson and Van Ness, as that crossing not only lacks pedestrian signals for people crossing Van Ness Avenue, but is one of The City’s most fatal streets for walkers.
