SFist Watches: Movies This Weekend

It was just last year that we made Saw our pick of the week, and we still don't regret it. OK, we do a little, because while the movie is a great specimen of the genre throughout, the end left us very "meh." Another year brings us Saw II, and we're already not interested.

But it's the American way to go see something scary this weekend, isn't it? While we agree that Nic Cage's wig is pretty damned scary, there's gotta be something better out there. Right? Hey, are there ANY non hardware titled scary movies playing this weekend?

OK, we guess we'll be getting our chills elsewhere this weekend. But what's in the theaters?

The Roxie is hosting Make It Funky, a documentary based around an April 2004 concert in Canal Street's Saenger Theater in New Orleans, which features musical legends Allen Toussaint, the Neville Brothers and Lloyd Price. All proceeds from the film go to benefit Louisana Rebirth.

JPop sensations Kyôko Fukada and Anna Tsuchiya star in Kamikaze Girls, a film which had it's San Francisco debut at this year's San Francisco Asian Film Festival. Now it's back for a run at the Lumiere, and we couldn't be happier. We really enjoyed the hilarious, insane, fashiony road trip film that made us realize that you can do anything in platform heels if you put your mind to it.

We should have known that the Castro wouldn't let us down this Halloween. Tonight is the Hammer Horror Triple Feature starting with The Creeping Unknown at 7, The Revenge of Frankenstein at 8:45, and The Vampire Lovers at 10:30. The rest of this weekend is just as awesome, check the calendar for full details. That's what we're talking about!

What about you? Are you going out to see something spooky, or is the idea of Chaplin and Batman (we can't front: we're kinda interested in this movie, too) scary enough for you? Let us know in the comments.
