When The Lights Go Down In The City
Free tickets and concert picks for the week of 10/20-10/26.
San Francisco's own Oranger is returning home after nearly a month on the road to celebrate the release of their CD New Comes and Goes. Check out their e-card to preview some songs off the CD and enter for your chance to win two tickets to their show at the Independent this Saturday with Sensations, The 88 and Black Fiction. (Contest ends tomorrow at noon!)
If you're in the mood for something different, you should give the East Village Opera Company a chance. You've heard of rock opera from The Who and Green Day, but this is opera rock. This five piece band, including a string quartet and two vocalists, takes opera classics like “Habanera” from Carmen, and “Nessun dorma” from Turandot and puts their own rock spin on them. They claim to embrace the pomposity of rock and the pomposity of opera without demeaning or satirizing either form. Listen to their music and watch a video (be sure to watch the part where Annmarie Milazzo siiings), and enter to win one of three pairs of tickets we're giving away to their show at Great American on Tuesday. (Contest ends 10/24).
All these giveaways are making us tired. After the jump, view this week's show picks in list form.
