SFist Watches: TV This Week - Part Three

We're up to our armpits in television this week watching new shows and falling back into the warm embrace of returning favorites. But tonight is probably the night we've been looking forward to the most.

We're so excited, we can hardly stand it. Two, count them, TWO TV monsters in one evening! What could be better? As we mentioned last week, we love us some Martha, and her daily show has proven that while she may be awful at rapping--and celebrity interviews, and ad-libbing, and speaking a sentence without using an "uh"--she's still got it when it comes to making the people around her feel like ineffectual boobs. And that's just what we want in Martha's version of "The Apprentice", which premieres at 8 p.m on NBC., with re-runs over on CNBC the following night. Martha's daughter Alexis will pose as her Carolyn, and we can hardly wait for that first meeting in...the "conference room"? Oh, Martha. You're such the innovator! Sadly, there are no locals in her cast of grovellers, despite the auditions that were held locally.

Tonight is also the return of "Lost." Oh...."Lost." How we love you so. We bought the DVD set of the first season, re-watched the first two episodes, and almost wept with joy at how amazing it looked. The widescreen presentation! The 5.1 stereo sound! The crisp detail! Not to mention the sheer wonderfulness of the show itself. It all made us realize that even if this new season should suck like nothing's sucked before, even if the monster turns out to be the ghost of Vincent Price, and all the castaways had to do to get off the island was return that damn idol to Vincent's cave, even if that hatch just leads to another damned mysterious hatch, well, we'll always have that first season.

But wait a second...that DOG is named Vincent...could it be?...

While ABC will be airing some kind of recap episode at 8 p.m., the premiere doesn't actually air until 9 p.m, so don't be afraid to tune in to Martha at 8. Following "Lost" at 10 p.m. is Another Damn Alien show, "Invasion." The show's fake blog Web site is an instant turn-off, but we're willing to give it a chance if only because we're afraid to set our TiVos to another channel for 10 p.m. lest we miss any precious seconds of "Lost" or its scenes-from-upcoming-episodes. How's that for a ringing endorsement?

We should also mention that the new seasons of "America's Next Top Model" (a two-hour premiere tonight) and "Veronica Mars" (premiering next week) will be airing on Wednesday nights, but with "ANTM" airing against Martha, and UPN's complete mishandling of "Veronica" over the summer (airing re-runs out of order, and incomplete, as well as not releasing the first season DVDs until AFTER the second season's premiere, and thus not giving those who missed it the first time around a chance to catch up and tune-in for the new season--not to mention it's time-slot up against "Lost"!) well, it looks like UPN will be losing a few more viewers on Wednesday nights.

Tomorrow: Everybody loves! Everybody hates! Everybody loves "Everybody Hates Chris"!
