Tipping for Carryout? You've got to be kidding.
I mean, the money you pay listed on the menu is for the cost of preparing the food. The tip is for service. If you don't get any service, a tip shouldn't be required. So, since with carryout, you are serving yourself, why would you tip? You don't tip at McDonald's, for instance.
The same applies for Buffet style places. If you're walking to the salad bar or buffet table, you ought not be required to tip. If there is a waiter coming by to give you water, coffee, etc., then, yes, tipping a bit is nice, but it should be nowhere near what you would pay if the waiter was serving your food.

Tipping taxi drivers?

I agree with the 10%-15% but I will leave less for horrible music, annoying cell phone chatter, and bad driving. I will leave more for thoughtful tunes and skilled/expedient driving. After all, these people are supposed to be professional drivers but most cabbies are actually the worst drivers on the road! If you see one on the interstate watch out!!
