Political Junkie: Roll Witcha
![]()
They should just lease the space below the fold on the front page of the Chron's Bay Area section to Supervisor Chris, no? (At rent-controlled rates, we'd hope!)
We'll get to a Television Without Pity-like recap of today's installment of As The Chris Turns after the jump, which involves Daly's ongoing beef with the Sentinel's Pat Murphy (scroll down and do check out the excellent pics!), but before we get to that, can we just savor the fine flavor of the following quote from the Chron? "After his comments [to the Board about the Sentinel], Daly stared at Murphy and said, 'That's how I roll.'"
That's how I roll??????? Paging Swizz Beatz! Will there be Fred Durst car-driving dancing in the Board chambers next? It's the new progressive catchphrase! That's how we roll! Buy the t-shirts! Check out the underground hardcore British dance track! And is anyone else thinking of that scene in Clueless where Brittany Murphy hits her head at the party and then learns how to sing the Coolio track "Rollin' with the Homies"? Chris Daly, are you a virgin who can't drive?
Roll with the Political Junkie..... after the jump!

So ....what happened??? Why you gotta hate on the bowtie, Chris? Pat seems like a very nice man! Even the Chron notes that Mr. Murphy is known for "sharing snacks with reporters." Can't we unite to fight the real enemy -- the governor?
So Chris has been feeling like Pat's been mean to him lately, which made Chris a little sad because Pat had been invited to the Low-Daly wedding. (Hey, what do you think Pat got them for a present?) Pat, for his part, says that he's been feeling more and more alienated from Chris's political style. "I just decided, 'This isn't working for me.'"
So Pat made a new best friend, Gavin Newsom. Ouch! It's certainly true that nothing sucks like breaking up with a friend. The awkward silences, the passive-aggressive rude comments made in your presence, the vicious gossip spread in the hallways.... Anyways, so Pat's been making little digs at Chris in the Sentinel for awhile now, and we all know how well Chris takes to that (the Political Junkie expects to be called up on the floor of the BoS any day now!).
So the latest is, as you may remember, that Pat called Chris out on a comment he made at the CitySafe hearings, so Chris sent the Sentinel a letter calling photographer Luke Thomas a bitch, and then Pat printed the letter. According to Pat, Chris got kind of upset about it and then "threatened that he would be doing something here at the Board of Supervisors." Sigh.
This sad saga of middle-school conflict culminated yesterday in Daly getting up in the Supes meeting and taking the "extraordinary step" of calling for the City Attorney's office to investigate whether the Sentinel has violated ethics rules by 1) asking Daly to donate money to buy the publication and 2) holding a fundraiser where local politicians donated money. Daly has asked the city attorney to look into whether the Sentinel should in fact be considered a political action committee based on these actions, and thus bound to disclose its donor list.
Now, we should say that we know absolutely nothing about the law or whether the Sentinel is in fact a PAC or whether this is an abridgment of First Amendment rights or anything. (That's how we roll, baby!) We're just hoping this doesn't end with someone getting doused in pig blood.
