Who Reads Yesterday's Papers?

We caught The Aristocrats this weekend so we'd like to apologize before hand if this posting somehow takes a strange turn towards bestiality, necrophilia, or incest.

-The off again/on-again resolution calling for redistricting of California legislative districts is now on again as the California Supreme Court ruled by a 4-2 vote to put the measure back on the ballot. The prevailing argument was that the changes between the version that first got approved and the version that people signed wasn't significant enough of a difference to make a difference and was more a result of crappy admin work than devious intent. The mellifluously named Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez, in response, used the "F": Florida. Sayeth Fabian:

"The court's decision is reminiscent of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in the Florida election. It shows why a small group of unaccountable, politically appointed judges should not be given the sole power to determine who represents Californians."
Not counting all the votes/typos on a proposition ballot, same thing.

-Christopher Walken in 2008? Cause we got a fever and the only prescription is more Walken.

Rendition of new A's Stadium from SFGate

-A's owner Lewis Wolff proposed a new A's stadium, a 35,000 seat ballpark that will be built near the Coliseum. Best part of the plan? Wolff would use mainly private funds to help build the $400 million dollar stadium. The stadium will feature a hotel and retail outlet, which will make up a large portion of the outfield. Guess that's what happens when the owner of the team got all of his money by building hotels. The idea is similiar to the Skydome in Toronto, where the Blue Jays play, which also features hotels and restaurants. Funny thing about having a hotel as part of a baseball park-- every once in awhile a couple staying in the hotel would decide to do the wild thing and go at it without closing the shades, thus letting everyone at the ballpark watch. Come to think of it, that sound like a great promotion. Who needs fireworks when you can watch live sex shows?

-The Chron's Glimmer Twins, Matier & Ross, reported last week that San Francisco has been sending home homeless people who ask to be sent home and can get permission from family members. So far, over 450 homeless people have gotten a one-way ticket back to where they came from. The plan has always existed in the city, but Gavin once again waved the magic wand of Better Bureaucracy and viola-- instant Greyhound tickets. And no, this has nothing to do with our getting free tickets back east for Passover this year.

-Anti-war activists are complaining to KMEL about the Navy sponsoring the station's Summer Jam concert at Shoreline. The Navy has been a sponsor of the event for ten out of the past nineteen years. Says a protestor: KMEL is "using hip-hop to promote the military to young people of color." Hmmm, we thought KMEL was using hip-hop to promote itself?
