SFist Reads

So often, when folks ask us what we're reading, we want to respond "The Internet". Seriously, we read online all damn day, it's amazing we are able to squeeze in words on paper, too! We can marry our love of the internet and books with the San Francisco Public Library's online reserve system, but it's also nice to get out there int he mix and thumb through the offerings at one of our fine local independent bookstores.
SFist Jer is just dipping into the new Atlantic Monthly, which is criticizing the Supreme Court for being out of touch with reality. Featured article: "How Arafat Destroyed Palestine." He's not sure that he'll be tackling that one any time soon; doesn't seem like summer-appropriate reading for some reason. Accordingly, he's reading a mysterious volume known as Men's Health, which apparently has some secret knowledge on "how to burn fat faster" for a "flatter, firmer stomach in no time." Speaking of magical secrets, Jer recently finished the new Harry Potter book (Half-Blood Prince), and doesn't care what you say; Professor Snape is still Jer's favorite character. And not just because he likes Alan Rickman.
For years SFist Krissy avoided reading The Girl's Guide To Hunting And Fishing despite its bestseller status. Something about the title made it seem like bad chick-lit, although she thinks it was actually published before that genre came to be. Her instincts have failed her yet again, because she's halfway through and she digs it. Easy to pick up and put down, it consists of seven closely related short stories but reads like a novel. And the focus is mostly on romantic relationships, so she can live vicariously. Recommended.
