When The Lights Go Down In The City

Our concert picks for the week of 7/21-7/27.

It's a good week of shows for those of us who love singer-songwriters, so let's celebrate by giving you something for free! Dark folk troubadour Chris Whitley has a new CD coming out on Tuesday on Messenger Records, and we want you to hear it.

Chris Whitley Enter to win Chris Whitley's new CD Soft Dangerous Shores. Contest ends 7/27.

Tonight none other than the good Sir Mix-A-Lot is shaking rumps at Red Devil Lounge. SFist Jackson sez: "While some may feel he's a bit presumptuous to declare himself as a peer of the realm, Sir Mix-A-Lot deserves the honor of knighthood way more than Bill Gates for keeping the beat alive in the Emerald City. It wasn't until our posse was old enough to drive our own hoopty to Broadway that he solidified his one-hit wonder status with 'Baby Got Back,' but we remember him back when politely asked The Man not to call him Leroy. The big butts, and those who love them, will be at the Red Devil Lounge [via Streams of Unconsciousness]." Numbers are at the Hemlock and the Makeout Room has the excellent singing and songwriting of David Dondero and Tom Heyman. The Shout Out Louds have been rocking San Francisco all week opening for Secret Machines, but tonight they headline at Popscene. If you're hankerin' for some free bluegrass music, Belle Monroe & her Brewglass Boys pick and grin at the Atlas Cafe. SOMA Magazine's throwing an invite-only soiree at Roe with art, fashion, cocktails, and hot local music by SFist favorites Von Iva, Stiletta, Madelia and So So Many White White Tigers. Test how exclusive the guest list is by RSVPing here.
