SFisting: Porn by the Bay

San Francisco holds many distinctions you'll never find touted in the latest "best of" issue of a certain magazine, but while one of those unique experiences is surprising pairs and trios of men hooking up in the bushes by the windmills (and laying pipe on sailboats in the Bay), it's equally as possible to see the guys getting it on around town with a full camera crew in tow. It's true that San Francisco holds court as gay porn's reigning queen of the world, especially with all the glitz, beefcake (and controversy) that can be found in hometown, world-famous gay male houses such as Falcon, Raging Stallion and even Treasure Island Media. But it ain't all just about the boys--nor is it about the mustachioed days of yore, as in Behind the Green Door. Seriously, they should've called it Hair. And why isn't it now called "The Mitchell Brother"?

Sure, years ago all-dyke SIR Productions rocked the porn world by making Hard Love and how to F*ck in High Heels with an all-local, all-lesbian cast (and even won a mainstream porn award), but where have the days gone when we might walk around a corner in Clarion Alley and stumble on a strap-on sapphic tryst being artfully captured forever on digital video (a la Sugar High, Glitter City)?

Well, keep your camera phones handy on your next nightly Mission stroll, because new local porn companies like Pink and White Productions are doing all they can to fill in the holes. (That's right, we're here all week, folks!) Don't think for a minute that porn made in San Francisco is going to imitate the low, unerotic and wholly artificial quality that signifies SoCal's sad contributions to the porn pool. Pink and White, Blowfish Video, The New School of Erotic Touch, and Pinkgasm are just a few of the growing pool that comprises the local porn scene, and each strive to film all the local hotties they can get their hands on, doing what they do best. Because at least we know that silicone is for dildos, people, not boobs.

And making porn in San Francisco isn't just a local privilege, it's a right, but that doesn't mean we can't share the sandbox with a few of the other artsy kids with cameras looking for thrills. Award-winning NYC porn director Joe Gallant stopped in to film his eponymous ironic, cinema verite epic Crack Whores of the Tenderloin cast from a pool of--you guessed it--real Tenderloin denizens. Former documentary filmmaker and now critically-acclaimed couples' erotic filmmaker Tony Comstock stopped in a few months ago to capture several local couples for his tasteful, shot-on-film couples' series (which began with bestseller Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story). Watch the Comstock Films previews page for the fruits of his crew's local labors.

Afraid of seeing someone you know in any of these films? We are, too. But at least we'll be able to find work when this whole blogging thing dies down.
